Was Jesus Christ raised from the dead? How is death brought to nothing? How are the dead to be raised up? What is the meaning of the word resurrection?
1 Corinthians 15:12-17… Now if Christ is being preached that he has been raised up from the dead, how is it some among YOU say there is no resurrection of the dead? If, indeed, there is no resurrection of the dead, neither has Christ been raised up. 14 But if Christ has not been raised up, our preaching is certainly in vain, and our faith is in vain. 15 Moreover, we are also found false witnesses of God, because we have borne witness against God that he raised up the Christ, but whom he did not raise up if the dead are really not to be raised up. 16 For if the dead are not to be raised up, neither has Christ been raised up. 17 Further, if Christ has not been raised up, YOUR faith is useless; YOU are yet in YOUR sins.
In Strong’s Concordance the word rendered Resurrection #386 means to literally stand up again, to be raised up, a rising again. So, was Jesus Christ raised with the physical body or in spirit? John 21:1-12, Luke 24:1-53
1 Corinthians 15:18-26…In fact, also, those who fell asleep [in death] in union with Christ perished. 19 If in this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all men most to be pitied. 20 However, now Christ has been raised up from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep [in death]. 21 For since death is through a man, resurrection of the dead is also through a man. 22 For just as in Adam all are dying, so also in the Christ all will be made alive. 23 But each one in his own rank: Christ the first fruits, afterward those who belong to the Christ during his presence. 24 Next, the end, when he hands over the kingdom to his God and Father, when he has brought to nothing all government and all authority and power. 25 For he must rule as king until [God] has put all enemies under his feet. 26 As the last enemy, death is to be brought to nothing.
Jesus was raised up with a spiritual body and he manifested himself to his disciples for some time before going to heaven and presenting his blood as the atoning sacrifice before God. Yes, indeed Jesus was raised up from death his disciples knew it, believed it, taught it and even died for this teaching of the resurrection. Acts 4:1-2, 1 Peter 1:18-23,
1 Peter 3:15-19… Indeed, who is the man that will harm YOU if YOU become zealous for what is good? 14 But even if YOU should suffer for the sake of righteousness, YOU are happy. However, the object of their fear do not YOU fear, neither become agitated. 15 But sanctify the Christ as Lord in YOUR hearts, always ready to make a defense before everyone that demands of YOU a reason for the hope in YOU, but doing so together with a mild temper and deep respect. 16 Hold a good conscience, so that in the particular in which YOU are spoken against they may get ashamed who are speaking slightingly of YOUR good conduct in connection with Christ. 17 For it is better to suffer because YOU are doing good, if the will of God wishes it, than because YOU are doing evil. 18 Why, even Christ died once for all time concerning sins, a righteous (person) for unrighteous ones, that he might lead YOU to God, he being put to death in the flesh, but being made alive in the spirit. 19 In this [state] also he went his way and preached to the spirits in prison,
Now we know that Jesus is been resurrected from the dead. Who gets resurrected next and how is this to happen, what are the chain of events, the order or rank in which this happens?
1 Corinthians 15:23-26… But each one in his own rank: Christ the first fruits, afterward those who belong to the Christ during his presence. 24 Next, the end, when he hands over the kingdom to his God and Father, when he has brought to nothing all government and all authority and power. 25 For he must rule as king until [God] has put all enemies under his feet. 26 As the last enemy, death is to be brought to nothing.
The order of the resurrection is as follows: Christ is resurrected first; he came back to life stood up and entered heaven itself. Then those who died in union with Christ Jesus, those belonging to Christ will be resurrected next when he comes to call them (during the last trumpet) next we the living will be caught away to meet him, then at the end when he hands the kingdom back to God the rest of the dead will be made alive.
I’m going to suggest that later on you reread this passage of Scripture in multiple translations of the Bible to get a fuller meaning. Yes to hear what the Spirit has to say with respect to the resurrection and not just listening to the teaching of men.
So, when are Christs anointed followers resurrected? It reads at his coming! So, when is Christ coming, when is this going to happen? How are the dead to be raised up?
Do we imagine that the holy ones of God are raised up and go straight into heaven after death? What about any righteous person that lived in the past? When are they raised up from death? What about the future, are there to be any resurrected then or is anyone to be able to stand up from death then?
Before we answer all those questions let’s ask another good question. When is death brought to nothing, destroyed, or made ineffective, when is death to be swallowed up forever?
1 Corinthians 15:51-54… Look! I tell YOU a sacred secret: We shall not all fall asleep [in death], but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, during the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised up incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this which is corruptible must put on incorruption, and this which is mortal must put on immortality. 54 But when (this which is corruptible puts on incorruption) and this which is mortal puts on immortality, then the saying will take place that is written: “Death is swallowed up forever.”
Death will start to be done away with at the last trumpet and at the resurrection of the dead, this indeed is a sacred secret. So, when will the sounding of the last trumpet happen and what will that event look like?
Matthew 24:30-31… And then the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in lamentation, and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send forth his angels with a great trumpet sound, and they will gather his chosen ones together from the four winds, from one extremity of the heavens to their other extremity.
Some people call this event a “Celestial Phenomenon”, the coming of Christ and the resurrection of the dead; but has this had happened yet?
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18…Moreover, brothers, we do not want YOU to be ignorant concerning those who are sleeping in death]; that YOU may not sorrow just as the rest also do who have no hope. 14 For if our faith is that Jesus died and rose again, so, too, those who have fallen asleep [in death] through Jesus God will bring with him. 15 For this is what we tell YOU by Jehovah’s word, that we the living who survive to the presence of the Lord shall in no way precede those who have fallen asleep [in death]; 16 because the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a commanding call, with an archangel’s voice and with God’s trumpet, and those who are dead in union with Christ will rise first. 17 Afterward we the living who are surviving will, together with them, be caught away in clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and thus we shall always be with [the] Lord. 18 Consequently keep comforting one another with these words
So, the resurrection of Jesus disciples, the holy ones of God is going to happen during the last trumpet, that means there are no disciples of Jesus in heaven as of now directing the affairs of mankind.
No one waiting on us, no apostle Paul or the apostle Peter in heaven right now, no not till Jesus sends forth his angels to gather everyone up at the same time during the last trumpet. Those who have died in union with Christ and those who are alive now who are waiting for their deliverance.
What type of body is given to those who are resurrected?
1 Corinthians 15:35-38 – God gives it a body.
1 Corinthians 15:42-45 – it is raised up as a spiritual body.
Luke 20:34-38 – The children of the resurrection are like the angels.
Acts 3:17-23 – Anyone not listening to Christ will be completely destroyed from among the people.
