Who are these seven spirits that stand before the throne of God?
The favored apostle John was given the words of Revelation by Jesus Christ from our heavenly Father to pass along to us with these words of greetings.
Revelation 1:4… John to the seven congregations that are in the (district of) Asia: May YOU have undeserved kindness and peace from “The One who is and who was and who is coming,” and from the seven spirits that are before his throne.
So, you and I received a greeting from God, and from the seven spirits that are before his throne and from Christ Jesus. Who are these seven spirits that are before the throne of God? And what kind of greeting is this?
It was a greeting of Grace and Peace much like a blessing. The Greek word used for grace found in Strong’s Concordance (#G5485 charis) could be also translated as kindness as in a pronouncing of a favor, referring to a gift, or thanking you for the sharing.
The Greek word for peace (#G1515 eirene) can be translated as one at rest, being whole, or joined together in the gift of peace with God.
So, you see this is no ordinary greeting of grace and peace from our heavenly Father, from the Lord Jesus, and from the seven spirits that are before the throne of God. It is a blessing, a pronouncing of a favor in the sharing and our being joined together with them in the future.
Who are these seven spirits that are before the throne of God that is giving us such a blessing?
The next reference to the seven spirits of God is found in the greeting given to Sardis. Let us look at it.
Revelation 3:1… “And to the angel of the congregation in Sardis write: These are the things that he says who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars, ‘I know your deeds, that you have the name that you are alive, but you are dead.
So, the seven spirits that are before the throne of God who sent a greeting, also sent the same greeting to the seven angels that were over the congregations of God. They could not be the same as the seven stars that are found in the hand of our Lord Christ Jesus. Revelation 1:20-21
The seven spirits that stand before the throne are in a different realm than the seven angels over the congregations.
Revelation 4:5… And out of the throne there are proceeding lightnings and voices and thunders; and there are seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, and these mean the seven spirits of God.
Do these spirits have names? What do they do before the throne of God? Are these spirits the attributes of God? Are these the same spirits that are sent forth into the earth and if so, what part will they play in helping us?
Revelation 5:6… And I saw standing in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures and in the midst of the elders a lamb as though it had been slaughtered, having seven horns and seven eyes, which mean the seven spirits of God that have been sent forth into the whole earth.
What are the attributes of God? Could these 7 spirits be called by the same attributes of God?
The attributes of God are as follows: Love, Wisdom, Justice, Power, Truth, Faith, Peace, Righteous and Holy! Isaiah 11:1-5
We do have some kind of clue to who these seven spirits might be and that is found at Daniel chapter 12.
Daniel 12:1… At that time Michael, the great prince, the protector of your people, shall arise. There shall be a time of anguish, such as has never occurred since nations first came into existence. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book.
Strong’s Concordance H4317 identifies Michael as an angel whose name means he who is like God.
We have other historical books such as Enoch that talk about Michael and other named angels who work with him for God’s righteousness.

These are the seven spirits that stand before the throne of God. They have been sent forth to help restore the earth and help subdue the rebellion against God’s sovereignty. They are faithful to our Lord and are very interested in our salvation. So, it would make sense that they would send salutations along with Christ and our Father in heaven who is the sovereign of the universe.
Blessed are all those who wish peace upon us. May the love of our Father in heaven rest upon them even forever, Amen!
