Against whom has Gaza revolted? What revolting actions have Gaza committed? Are we to consider the present decimated state of Gaza as the fulfillment of God’s prophecy?
Amos 1:6-8… I will not relent from punishing Gaza for three crimes, even four, because they exiled a whole community, handing them over to Edom. 7 Therefore, I will send fire against the walls of Gaza, and it will consume its citadels. 8 I will cut off the ruler from Ashdod, and the one who wields the scepter from Ashkelon. I will also turn My hand against Ekron, and the remainder of the Philistines will perish. The Lord God has spoken.
The people of Gaza have made God mad over the years and his punishment is coming to them. God has spoken and it will not be undone. But why you ask? Has this prophecy spoken by Amos already been fulfilled? Notice the first verse when God says “I will not relent” what does this mean?
Then They Will Know!
Ezekiel 25:15-17… This is what the Lord God says: “Because the Philistines acted in vengeance and took revenge with deep contempt, destroying because of their ancient hatred, therefore this is what the Lord God says: I am about to stretch out My hand against the Philistines, cutting off the Cherethites and wiping out what remains of the coastal peoples. I will execute great vengeance against them with furious rebukes. They will know that I am Yahweh when I take My vengeance on them.”
The coastal people of Gaza were made up of many ethnic groups who held a deep hatred against the people of Israel. The hand of God will come with vengeance against them for all the actions they have taken against God’s people over the years.
Who of mankind is going to say it is unjust? Is it not those who do not know God’s word nor do they care to understand him. I say to all you people prepare to meet God, submit to his authority and his kingdom or dry up and just blow away.
Again God had another prophet Jeremiah speaking a prophecy about the land of Gaza and those who live in it. This prophecy has to do with the actions of the king of the North.
Our first clue comes when the prophet himself gives a timeline of when he was given this prophecy, when he specifically calls out Pharaoh the King of the South’s action against the land of Gaza at that time.
Jeremiah 47:1-7… This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet about the Philistines before Pharaoh defeated Gaza. 2 This is what the Lord says: Look, waters are rising from the north and becoming an overflowing wadi (flood). They will overflow the land and everything in it, the cities and their inhabitants. The people will cry out, and every inhabitant of the land will wail. 3 At the sound of the stomping hooves of his stallions, the rumbling of his chariots, and the clatter of their wheels, fathers will not turn back for their sons, because they will be utterly helpless because of laziness of hands 4 on account of the day that is coming to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every remaining ally. Indeed, the Lord is about to destroy the Philistines, the remnant of the islands of Caphtor (Crete). 5 Baldness is coming to Gaza. Ashkelon will become silent, a remnant of their valley. How long will you gash yourself? 6 Oh, sword of the Lord! How long will you be restless? Go back to your sheath; be still; be silent! 7 How can you rest when the Lord has given it a command? He has assigned it against Ashkelon and the shore of the sea.
The prophet specifically calls out that he received this word before Pharaoh acted against the land of Gaza. This is an indication that it was not to be Pharaoh who would be bringing about God’s punishment. But in verse two he indicates where the punishment would be coming from when he calls out the North and the flood water that was coming.
Who would be coming from the North to wipe out Gaza? Could it be Israel or the USA or some other entity?
The Prime Minister Netanyahu after declaring a peace deal of the Middle East in the fall of 2023 at the United Nations soon found Israel under attack by Hamas from the Gaza Strip. A peace deal was reached with Hamas in Gaza in January 2025 with the help of President Trump.
After President Trump’s meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu on 2/4/25 he announced a desire to move the people of the Gaza Strip out of the region and floated a plan on turning the Gaza Strip into the next Rivera of the Middle East. This would ensure a lasting Peace and a financial security for the region he indicated.
Now looking back at this last passage of Scripture, see there in verse six where it indicates a wanting of peace.
But how can there be any peace when God has decreed a command against Gaza? What do you know about drinking from the Cup of Anger of God? Is it not time you found out, read Jeremiah chapter 25 or click on the hyperlink: Drinking from the Cup of God.
The Day of the Lord’s Anger
The wrath of God is coming, as indicated by Jeremiah chapter 25, it has been decreed by God. Before this final action against the nations the prophet pleads with you to seek God. Humble yourself, seek righteousness, and practice God’s commandments you people.
Zephaniah 2:1-15… Gather yourselves together; gather together, undesirable (oh shameless) nation, 2 before the decree takes effect and the day passes like chaff, before the burning of the Lord’s anger overtakes you, before the day of the Lord’s anger overtakes you. 3 Seek the Lord, all you humble of the earth, who carry out what He commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be concealed on the day of the Lord’s anger (The Day of God’s Wrath).
God hates pride and arrogance and those who disregard his word and his commandments, stop your seeking and chasing after self-pleasures and self-interest, take note of some of the reasons why God’s wrath is coming.
Picking back up on our reading of Zephaniah:
4 For Gaza will be abandoned, and Ashkelon will become a ruin. Ashdod will be driven out at noon, and Ekron will be uprooted. 5 Woe, inhabitants of the seacoast, nation of the Cherethites! The word of the Lord is against you, Canaan, land of the Philistines: I will destroy you until there is no one left. 6 The seacoast will become pasturelands with caves for shepherds and folds for sheep. 7 The coastland will belong to the remnant of the house of Judah; they will find pasture there. They will lie down in the evening among the houses of Ashkelon, for the Lord their God will return to them and restore their fortunes. 8 I have heard the taunting of Moab and the insults of the Ammonites, who have taunted My people and threatened their territory. 9 Therefore, as I live— this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel— Moab will be like Sodom and the Ammonites like Gomorrah— a place overgrown with weeds, a salt pit, and a perpetual wasteland. The remnant of My people will plunder them; the remainder of My nation will dispossess them. 10 This is what they get for their pride, because they have taunted and acted arrogantly against the people of the Lord of Hosts. 11 The Lord will be terrifying to them when He starves all the gods of the earth. Then all the distant coastlands of the nations will bow in worship to Him, each in its own place. 12 You Cushites will also be slain by My sword.
Stop making peace deals for the land is not yours to give away it belongs to the Lord thy God and to whom he wants to he gives it. For he has promised it as an inheritance to the remnant of Judah.
Stop making the word of God invalid. Stop fighting the will of God and seek him in prayer before it is too late.
