Who is able to judge the Kings of the earth? What can we learn by reviewing the kings of Babylon? Why is pride such a killer of kings?
Rather we have positions of oversight or not, why is it important to understand what pride does to the decision-making process and how is it a killer in our relationship with God?
God’s word has been found to be true on many subjects but none as valuable to understanding how pride is tied up with the sovereignty issue with God.
Pride the Killer of the Kings
Proverbs 16:18-20… Pride is before a crash, and a haughty spirit before stumbling. 19 Better is it to be lowly in spirit with the meek ones than to divide spoil with the self-exalted ones. 20 He that is showing insight in a matter will find good, and happy is he that is trusting in Jehovah.
As a king, Solomon points out that trusting in God is what makes you happy. Whereas pride is the opposite of trusting in God. Pride is a trusting in oneself and is a killer in a relationship with God.
There is an important principle that we all should know as respects to authority and rulership. The apostle Paul gives us a heads up to this principle that we should all learn from.
Romans 13:1-7… Let every soul be in subjection to the superior authorities, for there is no authority except by God; the existing authorities stand placed in their relative positions by God. 2 Therefore he who opposes the authority has taken a stand against the arrangement of God; those who have taken a stand against it will receive judgment to themselves. 3 For those ruling are an object of fear, not to the good deed, but to the bad. Do you, then, want to have no fear of the authority? Keep doing good, and you will have praise from it; 4 for it is God’s minister to you for your good. But if you are doing what is bad, be in fear: for it is not without purpose that it bears the sword; for it is God’s minister, an avenger to express wrath upon the one practicing what is bad. 5 There is therefore compelling reason for YOU people to be in subjection, not only on account of that wrath but also on account of [YOUR] conscience. 6 For that is why YOU are also paying taxes; for they are God’s public servants constantly serving this very purpose. 7 Render to all their dues, to him who [calls for] the tax, the tax; to him who [calls for] the tribute, the tribute; to him who [calls for] fear, such fear; to him who [calls for] honor, such honor.
There is no authority except by God. That is a truth, that nothing, and no one can get around that fact. The Sovereign of the Universe, the true God, has given laws for governing His universe. These are referred to as The Laws of Nature.
There are laws of engagement or interaction with mankind; God’s 10 Commandments is one example; and, of course, there are laws that govern rulership of the heavens and of the earth.
The issue of sovereignty and the right to rule over mankind is the foremost issue facing the earth and mankind today. God revealed this issue and who would have the right to rule mankind. He revealed these truths to the first king of Babylon and afterwards God continued to reveal more to the kings of Babylon through his spokesman Daniel the prophet.

Daniel 2:28… However, there exists a God in the heavens who is a Revealer of secrets, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what is to occur in the final part of the days. Your dream and the visions of your head upon your bed…
You see God revealed to the king, what would occur in the final part of the days. This should interest everyone that is living today because these are the final part of the days. So, what do we need to be looking for?
Daniel 2:44-45… And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite; forasmuch as you beheld that out of the mountain a stone was cut not by hands, and [that] it crushed the iron, the copper, the molded clay, the silver, and the gold. The grand God himself has made known to the king what is to occur after this. And the dream is reliable, and the interpretation of it is trustworthy.
It becomes very evident that rulership over mankind is going to come about by God and to whom he appoints as the ruler of the earth. No amount of voting or clamoring for this man or that person to become president matters. The appointment to rule comes from God, that is just the fact.
Did knowing this information about rulership help Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon? No it did not, the fact is that the king got himself into trouble with pride with God. So, what can we learn from this?

Chop the Tree Down
Daniel 4:13-17… I continued beholding in the visions of my head upon my bed, and look! a watcher, even a holy one, coming down from the heavens themselves. 14 He was calling out loudly, and this is what he was saying: CHOP the tree down and cut off its boughs. SHAKE off its foliage and scatter its fruitage. Let the beast flee from under it, and the birds from its boughs. 15 However, LEAVE its rootstock itself in the earth, even with a banding of iron and of copper, among the grass of the field; and with the dew of the heavens let it be wet, and with the beast let its portion be among the vegetation of the earth. 16 Let its heart be changed from that of mankind and let the heart of a beast be given to it and let seven times pass over it. 17 By the decree of watchers the thing is, and [by] the saying of holy ones the request is, to the intent that people living may know that the Most High is Ruler in the kingdom of mankind and that to the one whom he wants to, he gives it, and he sets up over it even the lowliest one of mankind.
We are given a very specific reason why pride is being addressed with this King. God wants all mankind to know he is ruling over mankind and whom he chooses he puts as a ruler or removes as a ruler.
Daniel 4:24-26… this is the interpretation, O king, and the decree of the Most High is that which must befall my lord the king. And you they will be driving away from men, and with the beasts of the field your dwelling will come to be, and the vegetation is what they will give even to you to eat just like bulls; and with the dew of the heavens you yourself will be getting wet, and seven times themselves will pass over you, until you know that the Most High is Ruler in the kingdom of mankind, and that to the one whom he wants to he gives it. And because they said to leave the rootstock of the tree, your kingdom will be sure to you after you know that the heavens are ruling…
What is it that we just learned? Is it not this: that God is ruler over mankind and the one whom he wants to he appoints as king or ruler? The heavens rule over the earth that is simply the fact and a truth no matter what mankind wants or says about it. That point was not lost in that one example, but in fact the next king of Babylon had to learn the same lesson about pride and who has the right to rule mankind.
Pride and Presumptuousness
The definition for pride has to do with a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from ones’ own achievements. Where the definition for presumptuous is a behavior that fails to observe the limits of what is permitted. That would be a person that takes liberties, that is overconfident, and acts rudely or inappropriately toward others.

Daniel 5:18-21… As for you, O king, the Most High God himself gave to Nebuchadnezzar your father the kingdom and the greatness and the dignity and the majesty. 19 And because of the greatness that He gave him, all peoples, national groups, and languages proved to be quaking and showing fear before him. Whom he happened to want to, he was killing; and whom he happened to want to, he was striking; and whom he happened to want to, he was exalting; and whom he happened to want to, he was humiliating. 20 But when his heart became haughty and his own spirit became hard, so as to act presumptuously, he was brought down from the throne of his kingdom, and his own dignity was taken away from him. 21 And from the sons of mankind he was driven away, and his very heart was made like that of a beast, and with the wild asses his dwelling was. Vegetation they would give him to eat just like bulls, and with the dew of the heavens his own body got to be wet, until he knew that the Most High God is Ruler in the kingdom of mankind, and that the one whom he wants to, he sets up over it. And as for you, his son Belshazzar, you have not humbled your heart, although you knew all this. 23 But against the Lord of the heavens you exalted yourself, and they brought before you even the vessels of his house; and you yourself and your grandees, your concubines and your secondary wives have been drinking wine from them, and you have praised mere gods of silver and of gold, copper, iron, wood and stone, that are beholding nothing or hearing nothing or knowing nothing; but the God in whose hand your breath is and to whom all your ways belong you have not glorified.
Belshazzar knew about what had happened to King Nebuchadnezzar, but his pride got in the way and this time it led the king to act against God. This king did not glorify God but took what belonged to the true God, worship, and defiled it as they worshiped the things made by the hands of man. This king was not so fortunate as the last king because he lost the kingdom forever and it was given over to the next ruler.
If we continued to study the kings that God appointed over his people and watch how he dealt with them, time and again rulership was given and taken away from men due to their sins against God. Pride and presumptuousness were the prominent killers of these kings. Even up today God judges kings and rulers of this earth until his kingdom becomes manifested and his Christ comes to enforce his kingship.
Will mankind accept this rulership of God’s kingdom? Who is the designated king of God’s kingdom? When is the Kingdom of God to start ruling over mankind? After all we look around at the world and realize there is no righteousness, the world is full of wickedness and violence.
The world wants globalization and a unity of all governments working for world peace. They want a sustainable growth and stability of their currency. The world created such organization over 77 years ago called the United Nations. It stands ready to implement peace and control where other governments have failed.
If we were to go back in history and study Nimrod, we would find that his primary city was called Babel that their society were seeking rulership without God. Is that not what The United Nations is advocating, rulership without God? That kingdom of Nimrod’s did not stand and got judged when God brought about the confusion of the language and thus the city became known from that day on as Babylon.
It is funny how history repeats itself. God himself has not changed and so he judges the same way and over the same issues. If I were to give advice by stating what I think, I would have to turn to this Scripture in the Bible and read it word for word to them. This is the best advice that anyone can give someone who thinks they want to rule this world.
Psalms 2:1-6… Why have the nations been in tumult and the national groups themselves kept muttering an empty thing? 2 The kings of earth take their stand and high officials themselves have massed together as one Against Jehovah and against his anointed one, 3 [Saying:] “Let us tear their bands apart and cast their cords away from us!” 4 The very One sitting in the heavens will laugh; Jehovah himself will hold them in derision. 5 At that time he will speak to them in his anger and in his hot displeasure he will disturb them, 6 [Saying:] “I, even I, have installed my king Upon Zion, my holy mountain.”
Who has God installed as king of his kingdom? It is the son of his love Jesus / Yeshua the Christ!
Psalms 2:7-9… Let me refer to the decree of Jehovah; He has said to me: “You are my son; I, today, I have become your father. 8 Ask of me, that I may give nations as your inheritance and the ends of the earth as your own possession. 9 You will break them with an iron scepter, as though a potter’s vessel you will dash them to pieces.”
Where do we find this decree in God word, and what does it say? King David wrote a prophetic song that is sung in many of the synagogues today about this decree.
Psalms 110:1-7… The utterance of Jehovah to my Lord is: “Sit at my right hand Until I place your enemies as a stool for your feet.” 2 The rod of your strength Jehovah will send out of Zion, [saying:] “Go subduing in the midst of your enemies.” 3 Your people will offer themselves willingly on the day of your military force. In the splendors of holiness, from the womb of the dawn, You have your company of young men just like dewdrops. 4 Jehovah has sworn (and he will feel no regret): “You are a priest to time indefinite According to the manner of Melchizedek!” 5 Jehovah himself at your right hand will certainly break kings to pieces on the day of his anger. 6 He will execute judgment among the nations; He will cause a fullness of dead bodies. He will certainly break to pieces the head one over a populous land. 7 From the torrent valley in the way he will drink. That is why he will raise high [his] head.
Psalms 2:10-12… And now, O kings, exercise insight; Let yourselves be corrected, O judges of the earth. 11 Serve Jehovah with fear and be joyful with trembling. 12 Kiss the son, that He may not become incensed, And YOU may not perish [from] the way, For his anger flares up easily. Happy are all those taking refuge in him.
So, you maybe you are thinking what happened to the 45th president? Was he not a man who believes in Jesus, did he not surround himself with religious leaders and spiritual advisers? Was he really an enemy of God?
What Happened to King Trump?
Proverbs 15:25… “The house of the self-exalted ones Jehovah God will tear down”
This should be a very simple concept if you think about it. Let us review some more Scriptures and see if the point becomes clearer?
Proverbs 16:4-5… Everything Jehovah has made for his purpose, yes, even the wicked one for the evil day. Everyone that is proud in heart is something detestable to Jehovah. Hand [may join] to hand, [yet] one will not be free from punishment.
Many people may have thought that they were unified under the prevailing government or authority of the 45th president. But as the Scripture brings out “hand may join to hand, but one will not go free from punishment.” These people under the influence of an idea acted against the authority of God by coming against the rules of law. Remember the passage of Scripture at Romans 13:1-2?
Romans 13:1-2… Let every soul be in subjection to the superior authorities, for there is no authority except by God; the existing authorities stand placed in their relative positions by God. 2 Therefore he who opposes the authority has taken a stand against the arrangement of God; those who have taken a stand against it will receive judgment to themselves.
Judgment is coming against all who oppose the authority of God. This is a fact that we cannot get around. Each one of us is going to have to make up our minds whose side are we on.
Romans 2:1-9… Now we know that the judgment of God is, in accord with truth, against those who practice such things.3 But do you have this idea, O man, while you judge those who practice such things and yet you do them, that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you despise the riches of his kindness and forbearance and long-suffering, because you do not know that the kindly [quality] of God is trying to lead you to repentance? 5 But according to your hardness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath and of the revealing of God’s righteous judgment. 6 And he will render to each one according to his works: 7 everlasting life to those who are seeking glory and honor and incorruptibleness by endurance in work that is good; 8 however, for those who are contentious and who disobey the truth but obey unrighteousness there will be wrath and anger, 9 tribulation and distress, upon the soul of every man who works what is injurious!
Everybody needs to be asking for forgiveness of their sins, they need to repent and renounce the rebellion against the authority of God now.
Proverbs 16:27-30… A good-for-nothing man is digging up what is bad, and upon his lips there is, as it were, a scorching fire. A man of intrigues keeps sending forth contention, and a slanderer is separating those familiar with one another. A man of violence will seduce his fellow, and certainly causes him to go in a way that is not good.
I think it would be safe to say that this idea to make America Great Again was the catalyst that caused the violence that brought about the no-good acts of rebellion to authority. No matter whose voice or who was advocating this idea it was the catalyst.
Why can we say that? Because it goes against what God wants, God has formed his government, he has placed his king on the throne and anything and anybody who does not accept this will be acting against the kingdom of God. This is God’s decision and belongs to no one else.
