What is the source of this life-giving water? What does it take for us to hear the spirit today?
Oh, to the making of many books there is no end so says the Scripture. And there has been many a word that has gone forth into the world from God through his prophets, but few people hearing it have acted on it. That does not stop the call to action from the bride and from the spirit even today.
Revelation 22:17… Both the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Let anyone who hears, say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come. Let the one who desires take the water of life freely.
This is the invitation that has gone forth, but who is listening or even considering accepting it? This invitation is just one word “come,” but how are we supposed to respond to that invitation?
The Scripture reveals that we should respond the same way, yes “come” we should say! That indicates an agreement to continue, it is an attitude of acceptance.
Are you thirsty for the truth, then you are invited to come. Where is the source of this life-giving water?
John 7:37-39… On the last and most important day of the festival, (festival of booths) Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38 The one who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, will have streams of living water flow from deep within him.” 39 He said this about the Spirit. Those who believed in Jesus were going to receive the Spirit, for the Spirit had not yet been given because Jesus had not yet been glorified.
The Christ had this water to give and so does the spirit who first shared it with the Disciples of Christ Jesus. Now the bride of Christ along with the spirit are calling out the invitation to come.
Did you notice that the Lord Jesus Christ indicated that there were Scriptures that prophesied about this life-giving water coming forth from God? Christ indicated that this water could be asked for.
John 4:7-15… A woman of Samaria came to draw water. “Give me a drink,” Jesus said to her, 8 because his disciples had gone into town to buy food. 9 “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” she asked him. For Jews do not associate with Samaritans. 10 Jesus answered, “If you knew the gift of God, and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would ask him, and he would give you living water.” 11 “Sir,” said the woman, “you don’t even have a bucket, and the well is deep. So where do you get this ‘living water’? 12 You aren’t greater than our father Jacob, are you? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and livestock.” 13 Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks from this water will get thirsty again. 14 But whoever drinks from the water that I will give him will never get thirsty again. In fact, the water I will give him will become a well of water springing up in him for eternal life.”
Yes, God revealed ahead of time to his servants what he was going to do. So, this free gift from God is the life-giving water that brings about eternal life.
Iasiah 43:1-5… And now listen, Jacob my servant, Israel whom I have chosen. 2 This is the word of the Lord your Maker, the one who formed you from the womb: He will help you. Do not fear Jacob my servant, Jeshurun whom I have chosen. 3 For I will pour water on the thirsty land and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your descendants and my blessing on your offspring. 4 They will sprout among the grass like poplars by flowing streams.5 This one will say, ‘I am the Lord’s’; another will use the name of Jacob; till another will write on his hand, ‘The Lord’s,’ and take on the name of Israel.”
God reveals this life-giving water to be his holy spirit.
Isaiah 55:1… Come, everyone who is thirsty, come to the water; and you without silver, come, buy, and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without silver and without cost! 2 Why do you spend silver on what is not food, and your wages on what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and you will enjoy the choicest of foods. 3 Pay attention and come to me; listen, so that you will live. I will make a permanent covenant with you on the basis of the faithful kindnesses of David. 4 Since I have made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples, 5 so you will summon a nation you do not know, and nations who do not know you will run to you. For the Lord your God, even the Holy One of Israel, has glorified you.”
So, the common theme with all these Scriptures we read has to do with the invitation to come, listen, and receive instruction. But do these Scriptures limit who is to receive this water? No, it does not limit who can take life waters freely, matter of fact it introduces the New Covenant.
Come Lord Yeshua
