What is a curse or malediction? What sins will bring about a curse? Who received the first curse and why? What factors separates the wicked from the righteous?
A curse is something spoken to invoke a supernatural power to inflict harm or punishment on someone or something. Were the word malediction being a magical word or phrase that is uttered to bring about an evil destruction to someone or something.
Moses had the Levite priest identify actions that would bring about a curse to the congregation of God, as six of the tribes stood on the mountain in front of the Israelite nation and pronounce “so be it or Amen”. Deuteronomy 27:10-14
The other six tribes would stand on the adjacent mountain and would say Amen to the blessings that were pronounced by the priests of God. The reason for this exercise was for the nation of Israel to begin to realize that God is just, and he will not tolerate disobedience from the wicked.
Psalm 37:28… For Jehovah is a lover of justice, and he will not leave his loyal ones. To time indefinite they will certainly be guarded; but as for the offspring of the wicked ones (H7563), they will indeed be cut off.
The definition for the word wicked according to Strong’s Concordance #H7563 rasha, means criminal, someone deserving of punishment, someone guilty of showing hostility to God or his people.
The primary thing that separates the wicked from righteous is God’s justice. The wicked continue to bring about calamity and curses upon themselves with the sins that they perpetrate against humanity and God. Even the Pharisees of Jesus’s day believed that God’s people were under a curse. John 7:49
Now we will review some things that have caused a curse to go forth to bring about a calamity not only to the perpetrator but to those who fall victim to their words and their ways.
Who was the first one who fell victim to the wicked?
Genesis 3:13-14… With that Jehovah God said to the woman: “What is this you have done?” To this the woman replied: “The serpent—it deceived me and so I ate.” And Jehovah God proceeded to say to the serpent: “Because you have done this thing, you are the cursed one out of all the domestic animals and out of all the wild beasts of the field. Upon your belly you will go, and dust is what you will eat all the days of your life.
Eve was the first woman who got deceived, tricked, or fooled by the original serpent the devil, the arch enemy of God. So, God pronounced the first curse upon the wicked serpent because he misrepresented the truth. Any misrepresentation of truth is in fact a lie.
The apostle Paul helps us identify what will prevent entry into the kingdom of God.
1 Corinthians 6:9… What! Do YOU not know that unrighteous (G94) persons will not inherit God’s kingdom?
What does Strong’s Concordance say about the word translated as unrighteous? This word #G94 adikos can be translated as wicked or unjust, properly someone without justice, because of violating God’s law, someone who’s become divinely disproved of because of leaving God’s standards. What are some of the sins that will bring about a curse from God?
- Someone who misrepresents truth is cursed by God. Genesis 3:1-14
- Anyone advocating or treating their parent with contempt will receive a curse from God. Deuteronomy 27:16
- Cursed is the one who causes the blind to go astray either physically or spiritually. Deuteronomy 27: 18
- Putting your trust in men leads to a curse. Jeremiah 17:5, Psalms 146:3
- Someone who does not take care of Christ’s brothers are cursed for the everlasting fire. Matthew 25:44
- Someone who changes the words of God by adding or removing from it. Revelation 22:18
These are but just a few of the things that bring about a curse from God. Is your church, organization or congregation guilty of any of the above sins? Then remove yourself from the presence of the man of lawlessness, he has been identified as the congregation of the wicked who will receive the ultimate curse from God, that of being cut off from everlasting life.
