What are the decrees of God? How are God’s decrees being made known? How will we worship God properly unless we are taught his decrees?
What is a decree? A decree is something declared as a law or as an official order. The Word of God says that something pronounced by God is a righteous or just decree.
Revelation 15:4… Who will not really fear you, Jehovah, and glorify your name, because you alone are loyal? For all the nations will come and worship before you because your righteous decrees have been made manifest.
Who is going to make known God’s righteous decrees to us today?
Isaiah 2:1-4… The thing that Isaiah the son of Amoz visioned concerning Judah and Jerusalem: 2 And it must occur in the final part of the days [that] the mountain of the house of Yehweh (Jehovah)will become firmly established above the top of the mountains, and it will certainly be lifted up above the hills; and to it all the nations must stream. 3 And many peoples will certainly go and say: “Come, YOU people, and let us go up to the mountain of Yehweh (Jehovah), to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will instruct us about his ways, and we will walk in his paths.” For out of Zion law will go forth, and the word of Yehweh (Jehovah) out of Jerusalem. 4 And he will certainly render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples. And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore.
How can this be you my ask? There is no peace in Jerusalem right now, it has no real authority that anybody is recognizing. No one is listening to what God has to say nor have they asked it of him. All the nations are trying to control what’s going on with Israel today. They try to meddle in the politics, they try to force a partitioning of the land. They push for peace deals without God’s backing or permission.
The prophet Isaiah reveals the timeline when God himself will make known his ways to us. But we have to go seek out his wisdom, his ways. Then he will begin a judgment of the nations, setting matters straight, and war will be done away with.
Will God himself speak to us or will it be one of his angels? Psalms 40:1-17
The apostle Paul reveals something very interesting about this passage of Scripture found at Psalms 40:1-17, but you will need to compare Hebrews 1:1-9 with it.
Did you see the point at Psalms 40:8? It said that Gods son has the law within his heart.
Then the apostle Paul reveals that God had a son and an heir who inherits the earth and the things in it, this son would be appointed as king and ruler over the earth. This was not a new thought because God had it prophesied in the Psalms.
Psalms 2:1-12… Why have the nations been in tumult and the national groups themselves kept muttering an empty thing? 2 The kings of earth take their stand and high officials themselves have massed together as one against Jehovah and against his anointed one, 3 [Saying:] “Let us tear their bands apart and cast their cords away from us!” 4 The very One sitting in the heavens will laugh; Jehovah himself will hold them in derision. 5 At that time he will speak to them in his anger and in his hot displeasure he will disturb them, 6 [Saying:] “I, even I, have installed my king Upon Zion, my holy mountain.” 7 Let me refer to the decree of Jehovah; He has said to me: “You are my son; I, today, I have become your father. 8 Ask of me, that I may give nations as your inheritance and the ends of the earth as your own possession. 9 You will break them with an iron scepter, as though a potter’s vessel you will dash them to pieces.” 10 And now, O kings, exercise insight; Let yourselves be corrected, O judges of the earth. 11 Serve Jehovah with fear and be joyful with trembling. 12 Kiss the son, that He may not become incensed, and YOU may not perish [from] the way, For his anger flares up easily. Happy are all those taking refuge in him.
Isaiah also was used to prophesy about God’s son coming.
Isaiah 9:6-7… For there has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come to be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. 7 To the abundance of the princely rule and to peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom in order to establish it firmly and to sustain it by means of justice and by means of righteousness, from now on and to time indefinite. The very zeal of Yehwah (Jehovah) of armies will do this.
And again see what the prophet Jeremiah says about this offspring of God.
Jeremiah 23:5-6… “Look, there are days coming,” is the utterance of the LORD, “and I will raise up to David a righteous sprout. And a king will certainly reign and act with discretion and execute justice and righteousness in the land. 6 In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel itself will reside in security. And this is his name with which he will be called, Yehwah Is Our Righteousness.
Jeremiah the prophet revealed that God will establish a king with a very unique name. Who is this King and what is his name?
Psalms 110:1-7… The utterance of The LORD to my Lord is: “Sit at my right hand Until I place your enemies as a stool for your feet.” 2 The rod of your strength Jehovah will send out of Zion, [saying:] “Go subduing in the midst of your enemies.” 3 Your people will offer themselves willingly on the day of your military force. In the splendors of holiness, from the womb of the dawn, you have your company of young men just like dewdrops. 4 Yehwah (Jehovah) has sworn (and he will feel no regret): “You are a priest to time indefinite according to the manner of Melchizedek!” 5 Yehwah (Jehovah) himself at your right-hand you will certainly break kings to pieces on the day of his anger. 6 He will execute judgment among the nations; He will cause a fullness of dead bodies. He will certainly break to pieces the head one over a populous land. 7 From the torrent valley in the way he will drink. That is why he will raise high [his] head.
Again let’s turn back to what the apostle Paul reveals the Jewish people of his day, about this king and priest called Melchizedek.
Hebrews 7:1-3… For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him 2 and to whom Abraham apportioned a tenth from all things, is first of all, by translation, “King of Righteousness,” and is then also king of Salem, that is, “King of Peace.” 3 In being fatherless, motherless, without genealogy, having neither a beginning of days nor an end of life, but having been made like the Son of God, he remains a priest perpetually.
So, how is this king going to bring about peace, how will he get the nations to stop their fighting?
Revelation 19:11-16… And I saw heaven opened, and look! a white horse. And the one seated upon it is called Faithful and True, and he judges and carries on war in righteousness. 12 His eyes are a fiery flame, and upon his head are many diadems. He has a name written that no one knows but he himself, 13 and he is arrayed with an outer garment sprinkled with blood, and the name he is called is The Word of God. 14 Also, the armies that were in heaven were following him on white horses, and they were clothed in white, clean, fine linen. 15 And out of his mouth there protrudes a sharp long sword, that he may strike the nations with it, and he will shepherd them with a rod of iron. He treads too the winepress of the anger of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 And upon his outer garment, even upon his thigh, he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
Peace will be brought about by the King of Righteousness as he makes known the righteous decrees of God. He will break the bow and arrow. He will slap the sword out of the hand of the wicked as he treads the winepress of God anger, and it will become a Woe even for you. Isaiah 5:18-22
