What are we to make of this expression that Apostle Thomas said, “my Lord and my God”? Why would the disciple Thomas make such a statement? And did Jesus correct him?
John 20:25-29… Consequently, the other disciples would say to him: “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them: “Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails and stick my finger into the print of the nails and stick my hand into his side, I will certainly not believe.” 26 Well, eight days later his disciples were again indoors, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and he stood in their midst and said: “May YOU have peace.” 27 Next he said to Thomas: “Put your finger here, and see my hands, and take your hand and stick it into my side, and stop being unbelieving but become believing.” 28 In answer Thomas said to him: “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him: “Because you have seen me have you believed? Happy are those who do not see and yet believe.”
Why did Jesus Christ not correct Thomas when he said: “My Lord and my God”?
This disciple of Jesus Christ, the Apostle Thomas, just had an epiphany, a moment in his life where the Holy Spirit had just revealed who Jesus Christ really was at that moment. Yes, Jesus Christ was the Son of God, but it was more than that, this realization came at that moment when Thomas puts his finger in the hand of Jesus Christ and felt where the nails had been. The picture had been painted or made known in Thomas’ mind’s eye. You may not understand the significance of what was just said just yet, but we will try to make it clear for you now.
Behold the Grace!
We know God’s name is YHWH in the old Hebrew alphabet and it is written in a form of pictographs. In the Hebrew alphabet the Y is pictured as a Closed Hand or Arm, and it can mean Work and Deed or Throw, and the W is pictured as a Nail or Tent Peg and can mean Add, Secure and Hook. Then the H is pictured as a Man with arms raised and can mean Behold Look or Grace. Now putting that information together, the word picture would be assembled as, or we could read it as the following: Hand Behold Nail Behold.
What kind of sentence can you make with those groupings of words, or with those ideas and concepts in mind? And what would be the supporting Scriptures to go with those concepts and ideas?
First to give you an idea here are the words again with the sounds they make:
Y = Yud: with Arm & Closed Hand – Deed, Work, Throw.
H = Hey: with Raised Arms – Behold Look the Grace
W = Vav: Nailed Tent Peg – Add Hooked and Secure
H = Hey: with Raised Arms – Behold Look the Grace
Next, I put together a conceptual sentence based on these words and the picture it could paint in your mind:
With the Work of his Hands with his up Raised Arms, look bound together, and Nailed in Grace.
Did Jesus Christ know that he was to be killed like this? That the works of his hands, would be nailed and hung from a pole of torture to be publicly killed as a lawless one? Where did he get this understanding from, what passage of Scripture is this thought found in?
Jesus knew this was going to happen to him he even told the Apostles ahead of time and he reminded them after he was resurrected.
Matthew 26:1-2… Now when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples:2 “YOU know that two days from now the Passover occurs, and the Son of man is to be delivered up to be impaled.
Luke 24:25-27… So, he said to them: “O senseless ones and slow in heart to believe on all the things the prophets spoke! Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into his glory? And commencing at Moses and all the Prophets he interpreted to them things pertaining to himself in all the Scriptures.
Isaiah 40:10-11… Look! The Sovereign Lord Jehovah himself will come even as a strong one, and his arm will be ruling for him. Look! His reward is with him, and the wage he pays is before him. 11 Like a shepherd he will shepherd his own drove. With his arm he will collect together the lambs; and in his bosom he will carry [them]. Those giving suck he will conduct [with care].
Moses and the prophets all spoke about the Christ the Messiah the arm of God coming to rule over mankind, but that he would suffer death first.
Luke 24:44-47… He now said to them: “These are my words which I spoke to YOU while I was yet with YOU, that all the things written in the law of Moses and in the Prophets and Psalms about me must be fulfilled.” Then he opened up their minds fully to grasp the meaning of the Scriptures, and he said to them: “In this way it is written that the Christ would suffer and rise from among the dead on the third day, and on the basis of his name repentance for forgiveness of sins would be preached in all the nations—starting out from Jerusalem.
At this point in time Jesus openly spoke saying that he was the Messiah, and a new work was to begin; that of preaching of repentance to all the nations. But the primary Scripture speaking of his death is found in Daniel chapter 9.
Daniel 9:20-27… “the Messiah (or anointed one) will be cut off”
With all that being said, can you imagine that at this point that this was possibly what was revealed to Thomas? Jesus had the nails put through his hands and Thomas was able to behold that fact yes see it with his own eyes that Jesus was the Lord over mankind.
With an outstretched arm of Grace for mankind it had been made possible and that realization is what made it complete for Thomas, a perfect picture in his mind’s eye. This is not some simple revelation he had. This has a far greater implication of who and what Jesus was and becomes to all. Jesus was and is the Lord, and he has become “At One with God”. Ok I know your head is spinning, and I am sorry, but there is a little more you need to know.
Jehovah Is Lord!
What is the meaning of the word Lord?
In the Greek Scriptures there over 20 variations of the spelling that can be translated as Lord. The Lord we speak of is Kurios and in Strong’s concordance #G2962 is defined as the one properly exercising absolute ownership rights the master.
But in the Hebrew Scriptures there is the personal name of God, and it is spelled YHWH. Some of the Bible writers want to change out the W with a V but there is no V in the old Hebrew. Look at Strong’s Concordance #H3068 and God’s name is seen spelled as Yahweh or Yhovah.
Let’s read Psalms 83:18 and if your bible uses the word LORD and not God’s name it’s because of the superstition (Exodus 20:7) of pronouncing the name of God, that something bad will happen to you but, the reality is rather something good could be done for you. (Isaiah 12:1-5)
Exodus 20:7… You must not take up the name of Jehovah your God in a worthless way, for Jehovah will not leave the one unpunished who takes up his name in a worthless way.
God will punish the abuser of his name, but blessings will come to those who put their trust in him.
Isaiah 12:1-5… And in that day, you will be sure to say: “I shall thank you, O Jehovah, for [although] you got incensed at me, your anger gradually turned back, and you proceeded to comfort me. 2 Look! God is my salvation. I shall trust and be in no dread; for Jah Jehovah is my strength and [my] might, and he came to be the salvation of me.” 3 With exultation YOU people will be certain to draw water out of the springs of salvation. 4 And in that day, YOU will certainly say: “Give thanks to Jehovah, YOU people! Call upon his name. Make known among the peoples his dealings. Make mention that his name is put on high. 5 Make melody to Jehovah, for he has done surpassingly. This is made known in all the earth.
What will you make known about the true God? This is what Asaph a Levite priest wrote about God in Psalms 83:18.
Psalms 83:18… That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah, you alone are the Most High over all the earth.
Are you able to tell the past dealings that God has done? Who is best suited to reveal who and what God is? Who has seen God and can speak about him? So, what do we really know about God?
The Christ Becomes the Lord
Adam spoke to God and Enoch walked with God. Abraham had dealings with God. Moses and Elijah were in the presence of God as they were tucked away in a mountain. So, what else do we really know about God? Through a series of questions and Scriptures let us get to know more about who the true God is and how he works with mankind.
Who spoke with Abraham?
John 8:56-58… Abraham YOUR father rejoiced greatly in the prospect of seeing my day, and he saw it and rejoiced.” Therefore, the Jews said to him: “You are not yet fifty years old, and still you have seen Abraham?” Jesus said to them: “Most truly I say to YOU, Before Abraham came into existence, I have been
Who spoke to Abraham, the prehumen Jesus did!
Who lead God’s people up and out of Egypt?
Exodus 3:2-4… Then Jehovah’s angel appeared to him in a flame of fire in the midst of a thorn bush. As he kept looking, why, here the thorn bush was burning with the fire and yet the thorn bush was not consumed. 3 At this Moses said: “Let me just turn aside that I may inspect this great phenomenon, as to why the thorn bush is not burnt up.” 4 When Jehovah saw that he turned aside to inspect, God at once called to him out of the midst of the thorn bush and said: “Moses! Moses!” to which he said: “Here I am.”
The angel of God led the people of God out of Egypt! So, who fed God’s people in the wildness?
Exodus 16:9-15… And Moses went on to say to Aaron: “Say to the entire assembly of the sons of Israel, ‘Come near before Jehovah, because he has heard YOUR murmurings.” 10 Then it occurred that as soon as Aaron had spoken to the entire assembly of the sons of Israel, they turned and faced toward the wilderness, and look! Jehovah’s glory appeared in the cloud. 11 And Jehovah spoke further to Moses, saying: 12 “I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Israel. Speak to them, saying, ‘Between the two evenings YOU will eat meat, and, in the morning, YOU will be satisfied with bread; and YOU will certainly know that I am Jehovah YOUR God. 13 Accordingly it occurred that in the evening the quails began to come up and cover the camp, and in the morning, there had developed a layer of dew round about the camp. 14 In time the layer of dew evaporated and here upon the surface of the wilderness there was a fine flaky thing, fine like hoarfrost upon the earth. 15 When the sons of Israel got to see it, they began to say to one another: “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. Hence Moses said to them: “It is the bread that Jehovah has given YOU for food”.
The angel of God fed the people of God in the wilderness! So, who gave them water to drink?
Exodus 17:5-6…Then Jehovah said to Moses: “Pass in front of the people and take with you some of the older men of Israel and your rod with which you struck the Nile River. Take it in your hand and you must walk on. 6 Look! I am standing before you there on the rock in Horeb. And you must strike on the rock, and water must come out of it, and the people must drink it.” Subsequently Moses did so under the eyes of the older men of Israel.
Was it not the angel of God that was standing on the rock that gave them water?
Who was walking around the camp listening and judging them?
Numbers 12:2-5… And they kept saying: “Is it just by Moses alone that Jehovah has spoken? Is it not by us also that he has spoken?” And Jehovah was listening. 3 And the man Moses was by far the meekest of all the men who were upon the surface of the ground. 4 Then Jehovah suddenly said to Moses and Aaron and Miriam: “Go out, the three of YOU, to the tent of meeting.” So, the three of them went out. 5 After that Jehovah came down in the pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance of the tent and called Aaron and Miriam. At this both of them went out.
Jehovah was walking around the camp listening and judging the people and he stood face-to-face with Moses.
Can an angel be given God’s name to use?
Exodus 23:20-23… Here I am sending an angel ahead of you to keep you on the road and to bring you into the place that I have prepared. 21 Watch yourself because of him and obey his voice. Do not behave rebelliously against him, for he will not pardon YOUR transgression, because my name is within him. 22 However, if you strictly obey his voice and really do all that I shall speak, then I shall certainly be hostile to your enemies and harass those who harass you. 23 For my angel will go ahead of you and will indeed bring you into the land.
You are probably starting to understand the point that our Lord Jesus was used as the representative of God, the one who had authority over the people of God back then. He was judging and watching over them. Who was this angel that had God’s name? The apostle Paul gives us the answer.
1 Corinthians 10:1-5…Now I do not want YOU to be ignorant, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea 2 and all got baptized into Moses by means of the cloud and of the sea; 3 and all ate the same spiritual food 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they used to drink from the spiritual rock-mass that followed them, and that rock-mass meant the Christ. 5 Nevertheless, on most of them God did not express his approval, for they were laid low in the wilderness.
If we deny the anointed one of God, his Christ, by not listening to his words, we could lose God’s favor and the approval that is needed to attain everlasting life. This blessing could become lost to us.
The fact is that YHWH is the Lord, Yahweh or Yhovah our God and we know Jesus Christ is going to reveal the true sovereign of the universe to us, yes, our heavenly Father! This we shall prove by the next series of Scriptures and questions the subheading who is like God.
Who is like God?
If you are a father who would best represent you? Would it not be your son? Some people even want to name their son after their father. Some people even identify their son by using the word Junior in back of the name so as not to confuse the father from the son. The question of the hour would be “who is like God”?
Joseph had something revealed to him that was incredibly special respecting the son of God.
Matthew 1:21-23… She will give birth to a son, and you must call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this actually came about for that to be fulfilled which was spoken by Jehovah through his prophet, saying: 23 “Look! The virgin will become pregnant and will give birth to a son, and they will call his name Immanuel,” which means, when translated, “With Us Is God.”
Did Jesus prove to be Immanuel the son of the true God?
Luke 10:22-24… In that very hour he became overjoyed in the holy spirit and said: “I publicly praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have carefully hidden these things from wise and intellectual ones and have revealed them to babes. Yes, O Father, because to do thus came to be the way approved by you. 22 All things have been delivered to me by my Father, and who the Son is no one knows but the Father; and who the Father is, no one [knows] but the son, and he to whom the son is willing to reveal him.” 23 With that he turned to the disciples by themselves and said: “Happy are the eyes that behold the things YOU are beholding. 24 For I say to YOU, many prophets and kings desired to see the things YOU are beholding but did not see them, and to hear the things YOU are hearing but did not hear them.”
The rightful son of God knows who the Father is, and it is he who will let us come to know the Heavenly Father. Now Let us read about a prayer that Jesus did publicly and take note of some specific points that he mentions:
John 17:1-2… Jesus spoke these things, and, raising his eyes to heaven, he said: “Father, the hour has come; glorify your son, that your son may glorify you, 2 according as you have given him authority over all flesh, that, as regards the whole [number] whom you have given him, he may give them everlasting life.
The first point that you should take note of is this: God is going to glorify his son. Second: The Son’s assignment was to glorify the father. Third: Authority over all flesh was given to the son of God. The fourth point: is that everlasting life was going to be given to men. Next, we read:
John 17:3-5…This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ. 4 I have glorified you on the earth, having finished the work you have given me to do. 5 So now you, Father, glorify me alongside yourself with the glory that I had alongside you before the world was.
Jesus had a prehumen life, and this fact might shock some of you, but keep reading on.
John 17:6-8… “I have made your name manifest to the men you gave me out of the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have observed your word. 7 They have now come to know that all the things you gave me are from you; 8 because the sayings that you gave me, I have given to them, and they have received them and have certainly come to know that I came out as your representative, and they have believed that you sent me forth.
Not only did our Lord Jesus made known God’s name, but he came to be a representative of God in the flesh.
God‘s Declaration
Exodus 3:13-15…Nevertheless, Moses said to the [true] God: “Suppose I am now come to the sons of Israel, and I do say to them, ‘The God of YOUR forefathers has sent me to YOU,’ and they do say to me, ‘What is his name?’ What shall I say to them?” 14 At this God said to Moses: “I SHALL PROVE TO BE WHAT I SHALL PROVE TO BE.” (Strong’s #H1961 I AM) And he added: “This is what you are to say to the sons of Israel, ‘I SHALL PROVE TO BE (Strong’s #H1961 I AM) has sent me to YOU”. 15 Then God said once more to Moses: “This is what you are to say to the sons of Israel, Jehovah (Strong’s #H3068 Yahweh) the God of YOUR forefathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, has sent me to YOU.’ This is my name to time indefinite, and this is the memorial of me to generation after generation.
God is the giver of the breath of life to all things. Man has found proof of God’s name written in the DNA of mankind. This is fascinating research for those who care to look up the facts before it is too late. You see, the wicked one is trying to hide the truth forever by DNA splicing and manipulation. If he accomplishes this, you will no longer belong to the true God. At that point, there is no redemption nor deliverance. You would become lost forever.
Take a pledge right now, be for the spirit of the true God and swear not to become lost forever from the giver of everlasting life. Ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit from God. And start speaking about the salvation we are to have by means of Christ Jesus. Now it is high time you know this: Who should we worship God or the Son of God?
Who Should We Worship?
Revelation 19:10… At that I fell down before his feet to worship him. But he tells me: “Be careful! Do not do that! All I am is a fellow slave of you and of your brothers who have the work of witnessing to Jesus. Worship God: for the bearing witness to Jesus is what inspires prophesying.”
We are not to worship angels; we are not to worship the son of God. We are only to worship to the true God himself, the sovereign of the universe our heavenly father. Notice that the angel of God starts to prophesy about Jesus.
Why does testifying about Jesus bring about prophesying and who can prophesy? Let us continue to analyze Revelation chapter19 picking back up in verse 11:
Revelation 19:11-16… And I saw the heaven opened, and look! a white horse. And the one seated upon it is called Faithful and True, and he judges and carries on war in righteousness. 12 His eyes are a fiery flame, and upon his head are many diadems. He has a name written that no one knows but he himself, 13 and he is arrayed with an outer garment sprinkled with blood, and the name he is called is The Word of God. 14 Also, the armies that were in heaven were following him on white horses, and they were clothed in white, clean, fine linen. 15 And out of his mouth there protrudes a sharp long sword, that he may strike the nations with it, and he will shepherd them with a rod of iron. He treads too the winepress of the anger of the wrath of God the Almighty.16 And upon his outer garment, even upon his thigh, he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
After reading this passage of Scripture, can you identify who this is on the white horse? It is important that we are all taught by Holy Spirit what is truth. The apostle Paul makes a really good point about being taught with holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:3… Therefore, I would have YOU know that nobody when speaking by God’s spirit says: “Jesus is accursed!” and nobody can say: “Jesus is Lord!” except by holy spirit.
Accursed in Strong’s Concordance #G331 is anathema: it is something given up in a pledge, like an offering given to God by Jesus Christ to fulfill a vow.
The apostle Paul was making this point in this passage of Scripture. That any bearing witness or testifying about Jesus Christ is done with holy spirit. A direct revealing by God. Our Lord Jesus Christ was given up as an offering, in fulfillment to a pledge that he made to God. And in doing so God blessed him and gave him a seat at the right of God. Not only that, but he gave him a name above all others.
Has Jesus become God?
Isaiah 9:6-7… For there has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come to be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. 7 To the abundance of the princely rule and to peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom in order to establish it firmly and to sustain it by means of justice and by means of righteousness, from now on and to time indefinite. The very zeal of Jehovah of armies will do this.
Is extremely important to understand who the true God is and what he intends to do with respects to his son.
Ephesians 1:17-23… that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give YOU a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the accurate knowledge of him; 18 the eyes of YOUR heart having been enlightened, that YOU may know what is the hope to which he called YOU, what the glorious riches are which he holds as an inheritance for the holy ones, 19 and what the surpassing greatness of his power is toward us believers. It is according to the operation of the mightiness of his strength, 20 with which he has operated in the case of the Christ when he raised him up from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above every government and authority and power and lordship and every name named, not only in this system of things, but also in that to come. 22 He also subjected all things under his feet and made him head over all things to the congregation, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills up all things in all.
All things are made subject to the Lord Jesus Christ because it was the righteous will of God to do so. The Sovereign of the universe, the heavenly father, gave an inheritance to the son of his love. What is this inheritance? A kingdom with subjects.
Revelation 3:12-13… The one that conquers—I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God, and he will by no means go out [from it] anymore, and I will write upon him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem which descends out of heaven from my God, and that new name of mine. Let the one who has an ear hear what the spirit says to the congregations.’
Do not become puffed up with pride of knowledge about these things. But we should have the same attitude that Jesus Christ had.
Philippians 2:5-11… Keep this mental attitude in YOU that was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although he was existing in God’s form, gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal to God. 7 No, but he emptied himself and took a slave’s form and came to be in the likeness of men. 8 More than that, when he found himself in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient as far as death, yes, death on a torture stake. 9 For this very reason also God exalted him to a superior position and kindly gave him the name that is above every [other] name, 10 so that in the name of Jesus every knee should bend of those in heaven and those on earth and those under the ground, 11 and every tongue should openly acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.
We who now know the truth, are obligated to take a knee and openly knowledge that Jesus Christ is our Lord. For every Authority and Lordship in heaven and on the earth are also obligated to do the same thing. It is time to swear allegiance to God’s Kingdom and his incoming King Christ Jesus, who has become our LORD and GOD.
And cursed is anyone not taking the knee and swearing to this fact. Let the 7 bowls of God Wrath be poured out on them. So be it, Amen. Yes, come Lord Jesus.
