Revelation 1:3... Happy is he who reads aloud and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and who observe the things written in it; for the appointed time is near.
Why would you be happy reading God’s word aloud? Could we not be happy reading to ourselves in silence in an undertone with our very spirit?
Psalms 1:1-2… Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked (following their advice and example), Nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit (down to rest) in the seat of scoffers (ridiculers). 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And on His law (His precepts and teachings) he (habitually) meditates day and night. 3 And he will be like a tree firmly planted and fed by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season; Its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers and comes to maturity.
The Participants
First did you notice there is someone who reads this prophecy of revelation out loud. Next there is someone who is hearing or understands this prophecy or revelation. Then there’s someone who observes or watching over / keeping guard the congregation of God.
A public reading was commanded to be done with the whole congregation. Especially on Tishri 1 the day of Trumpet Blast. Deuteronomy 31:9-13, Joshua 8:32-35, Nehemiah 8:1-8.
After reading 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 we understand that the operation of the Holy Spirit upon us makes knowledge and discernment of prophecy known.
Let u look at the Greek word used or translated as “observe”, as found in Revelation 1:3, in Strong’s Concordance #G5083, Tereo or Tay-reh’-o, can be rendered, I keep, maintain, preserve, a guard, spiritually guard, observe, keep intact or watch over.
After this research, I believe the following sentence is a revised correction that is proper, and I will give scriptural proof of why I think this so.
Revelation 1:3…Happy (Blessed) is he who reads aloud (to the congregation) and those who comprehend the words of this prophecy, also to those who are watch over (spiritually guarding) it because “near is the appointed time”.
Okay so let’s now breakdown the sentence in this passage of scripture. What is the appointed time?
Daniel 8:16-19 points to the Appointed Time as “Time of the end” or Final Denunciation or Indignation, Time of Gods Wrath, to set matters straight.
Looking also at Revelation 22:6-7, 10 we see that Strong’s Concordance #G2540. The Greek word used is Kairos and is being used as time.
The appointed time was referred to the time that God had set aside for his people to come worship him at his festivals. The day of Atonement was also viewed as the appointed time to cover and to set things straight.
Who is also watching over the congregation helping and keeping spiritual guard of it?
Revelation 1:20… As for the sacred secret of the seven stars that you saw upon my right hand, and [of] the seven golden lampstands: The seven stars mean [the] angels of the seven congregations / assemblies, and the seven lampstands mean seven congregations / assemblies.
Strong’s Concordance #G1577 uses the Greek word Ekklesia for congregation, assemblies or gatherings.
Notice what the apostle Peter revealed that was happening around the gathering when God’s word was being read aloud or considered.
1 Peter 1:10-12… Concerning this very salvation a diligent inquiry and a careful search were made by the prophets who prophesied about the undeserved kindness meant for YOU. 11 They kept on investigating what particular season or what sort of [season] the spirit in them was indicating concerning Christ when it was bearing witness beforehand about the sufferings for Christ and about the glories to follow these. 12 It was revealed to them that, not to themselves, but to YOU, they were ministering the things that have now been announced to YOU through those who have declared the good news to YOU with holy spirit sent forth from heaven. Into these very things angels are desiring to peer (G3879).
The footnote found at Strong’s Concordance #G3879 can be rendered as “to stoop beside”. So, as the apostle Peter noted angels are wanting to swoop down and look intently at what was being spoken, declared or announced by the prophets to us as
the scriptures are read.
Ephesians 3:9-11… and should make men see how the sacred secret is administered which has from the indefinite past been hidden in God, who created all things. 10 [This was] to the end that now to the governments and the authorities in the heavenly places there might be made known through the congregation the greatly diversified wisdom of God, 11 according to the eternal purpose that he formed in connection with the Christ, Jesus our Lord. Read this in the Greek Interlinear.
What Have We Learned
So, let’s sum up what’s being said or taught.
1. There’s someone who reads this prophecy out loud. Those who are appointed to take the lead in the congregation, way back in the day, it was the priest’s job. John 10:1-4, Ephesians 3:5, Malachi 2:7
2. There is someone who is hearing or understands this prophecy and makes it known. The Holy Spirit makes known prophecy to us, and it operates upon the one who has the gift. 1 Corinthians 12:7-10
3. There’s someone who observes or is watching over / keeping guard over the congregation of God. The Angels have that responsibility to help watch over the congregation of God, they even desire to know what the Holy Spirit is saying to his anointed ones.
4. What is the appointed time? The Appointed Time is a call to come worship as a group gathering before God at the time of his appointed festivals. Each of God’s festivals pointed to the aspect that he held dear and wanted the participants to understand the deeper meaning behind his festivals. The consumption of the age was also referred to the appointed time when God would pay back to those who are appointed to positions of oversight, the blessings for those who do good and a curse for those who practice wickedness.
Hebrews 10:23-25… Let us hold fast the public declaration of our hope without wavering, for he is faithful that promised. And let us consider one another to incite to love and fine works, not forsaking the gathering of ourselves together, as some have the custom, but encouraging one another, and all the more so as YOU behold the day drawing near.
Because
Revelation 1:3… Happy (Blessed) is he who reads aloud (to the congregation) and those who comprehend the words of this prophecy, also to those who are watch over (spiritually guarding) it because “near is the appointed time”.
Revelation 22:16-17… “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to attest these things to youfor the Ekklesia. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright Morning Star.” Both the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Anyone who hears should say, “Come!” And the one who is thirsty should come. Whoever desires should take the living water as a gift.
Come Lord Jesus!
