What kind of controversy does the Lord have with us? What is the meaning of the word controversy?
The word Controversy has to do with the Dispute or Disagreement like in an Altercation. So, does the LORD have something against us his people today?
Let’s do a verse by verse review of Jeremiah 25:30-38 and look at the supporting scriptures along with some commentary and review questions as we go.
The LORD Will Come
Jeremiah 25:30 And as for you, you will prophesy to them all these words, and you must say to them: “From on high the Lord (Strong’s #H3068 Jehovah) himself will roar, and from his holy dwelling he will give forth his voice. Without fail he will roar Upon His Abiding Place (Strong’s #H5116 against his fold and his pasture ground). A shout like that of those treading (Strong’s #H1869 marching around the winepress he will sing out) against all the inhabitants of the earth.
Are there any scriptures that support the Lord marching in his anger against God’s people or for that matter the earth and those who live on it?
Isaiah 63:1-6… Who is this one coming from Edom, the one with garments of glowing colors from Bozrah, this one who is honorable in his clothing, marching in the abundance of his power? “I, the One speaking in righteousness, the One abounding [in power] to save.”2 Why is it that your clothing is red, and your garments are like those of one treading in the winepress? 3 “The wine trough I have trodden by myself, while there was no man with me from the peoples. And I kept treading them in my anger, and I kept trampling them down in my rage. And their spurting blood kept spattering upon my garments, and all my clothing I have polluted. 4 For the day of vengeance is in my heart, and the very year of my repurchased ones has come. 5 And I kept looking, but there was no helper; and I began to show myself astonished, but there was no one offering support. So, my arm furnished me salvation, and my rage was what supported me. 6 And I kept stamping down peoples in my anger, and I proceeded to make them drunk with my rage and to bring down to the earth their spurting blood.”
Could the Lord really do this to people? We know that these things have been prophesied but what does the New Testament say about this subject?
Revelation 19:11-18… And I saw the heaven opened, and, look! a white horse. And the one seated upon it is called Faithful and True (Revelation 3:14), and he judges and carries on war in righteousness. 12 His eyes are a fiery flame, and upon his head are many diadems. He has a name written that no one knows but he himself, 13 and he is arrayed with an outer garment sprinkled (Strong’s #H911 dipped) with blood, and the name (Logos) he is called “The Word of God” (John 1:1-2). 14 Also, the armies that were in heaven were following him on white horses, and they were clothed in white, clean, fine linen. 15 And out of his mouth there protrudes a sharp long sword, that he may strike the nations with it, and he will shepherd them with a rod of iron. He treads too the winepress of the anger of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 And upon his outer garment, even upon his thigh, he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords (Revelation 17:14). 17 I saw also an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice and said to all the birds that fly in midheaven: “Come here, be gathered together to the great evening meal of God, 18 that YOU may eat the fleshy parts of kings and the fleshy parts of military commanders and the fleshy parts of strong men and the fleshy parts of horses and of those seated upon them, and the fleshy parts of all, of freemen as well as of slaves and of small ones and great.”
After reading these passages of Scriptures let’s get one thing straight, God is bringing about his righteous anger at wicked and unfaithful and disobedient mankind. What is going to happen is well deserved. After all, where is the repentance from dead works of mankind? Where is the complying attitude or willing obedience to properly serve the LORD God?
Continuing with the review of Jeremiah 25:31…
The Storm is Coming
Jeremiah 25:31 A noise (Strong’s #H7588 uproar) will certainly come clear to the farthest part of the earth, for there is a controversy (Strong’s #H7379 dispute) that Jehovah has with the nations. He must personally put himself in judgment with all flesh. As regards the wicked ones, he must give them to the sword, is the utterance of Jehovah.
Jeremiah 25:32 This is what Jehovah of armies has said, ‘Look! (Strong’s #H2009 behold) storm a calamity (Strong’s #H7451 evil / disaster) is going forth from nation to nation, and a great tempest (Strong’s #H5591 whirlwind / storm) itself will be roused up from the remotest parts of the earth.
Jeremiah 25:33 And those slain by Jehovah will certainly come to be in that day from one end of the earth clear to the other end of the earth. They will not be bewailed (Strong’s #H5594 lamented /cried over), neither will they be gathered up or be buried. As manure (Strong’s #H1828 dung) on the surface of the ground they will become.
Is there any place to hide to protect yourselves from the coming storm? Some may be asking: why were we not told about this judgment, who is responsible for failing to warn us?
Each of us is responsible to read God’s word and pray for understanding and direction. We are accountable for our own actions, and we will suffer the consequences of following the wrong leaders. Ezekiel 34:17-22
Jesus Christ is the appointed leader of the Christian congregation, and it is him whom we should be following and not men.
Revelation 6:16-17… And they keep saying to the mountains and to the rock-masses: “Fall over us and hide us from the face of the One seated on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb, because the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”
Now is not the time to hide but it is time to stop, repent and ask forgiveness.
God himself will answer as to who is responsible for failing to warn us as we pick up our review.
Jeremiah 25:34 “Howl, YOU shepherds, and cry out! And wallow about, YOU majestic ones of the flock, because YOUR days for slaughtering and for YOUR scatterings (Strong’s #H8600 dispersion) have been fulfilled, and YOU must fall like a desirable vessel! Jeremiah 23:1-12, Ezekiel 34:1-6
What do you think about that? Now that you know who God is angry at, is there anything that they can do about their situation?
No Place to Hide
Zechariah 10:3 … Against the shepherds my anger has grown hot, and against the goat like leaders I shall hold an accounting; for Jehovah of armies has turned his attention to his drove (Strong’s #H5739 flock or herd), the house of Judah, and has made them like his horse of dignity in the battle.
Jeremiah 25:35 And a place to flee to has perished from the shepherds, and a means of escape from the majestic ones of the flock.
Jeremiah 25:36 Listen! The outcry of the shepherds, and the howling of the majestic ones of the flock, for Jehovah is despoiling (Strong’s #H7703 deal violently) their pasturage.
Jeremiah 25:37 And the peaceful abiding places (Strong’s #H4999 peaceful sheep folds pasture grounds) have been rendered lifeless (Strong’s #H1826 struck dumb, silent or still) because of the burning anger of Jehovah.
Jeremiah 25:38 He has left his covert just like a maned young lion, for their land has become an object of astonishment because of the maltreating sword and because of his burning anger.”
Do you need to ask, “why is our Lord angry”? It is not really because it is his day of judgment that has come upon us! Is it too late to ask for forgiveness and repent?
You better get down on your knees and do a heartfelt prayer asking what you should be doing right about now, before his anger is in full manifestation. Revelation 15:1,16:1
